Overview

Colnaghi Elliott is delighted to participate in the 2025 edition of Trois Crayons, a fair uniting the global drawings community around the "father" of the arts. Colnaghi Elliott will be presenting a selection of 19th-century works on paper, ranging from the most important artists to rediscovered lesser-known figures.

From the View of the Aosta Valley by J M W Turner, whose work changed the course of art history, heralding impressionism, to excellent examples of the classical academic studies that underpinned the century’s rapidly expanding institutions for public artistic education, our showcase offers an encompassing view of drawing in the 19th century across sections of society.

Emilie Lachaud’s portrait of Elisa Hintz captures the 19th century’s nascent nation building efforts through folk culture while offering a view into how women articulated their visual identities ; Eigner’s Head study of a man in a cap sheds light on the creative process of the artist who captured the likenesses of the public figures at the helm of Habsburg Austria ; Lalire’s nude studies revel in the voluptuous vision and sensuality of late academic painting in the France of Beaudelaire’s Fleurs du Mal.

This formidable span and diversity of our showcase is emblematic of Colnaghi Elliott’s heritage of sourcing masterpieces by history’s greatest artists while maintaining a commitment to rediscovering exceptional works by lesser-known figures. This plurality makes our showcase compelling to collectors at every stage of their journey.
